About William David Hollis, Jr.

  • ** ALERT There are two wives that have been added on here that are not listed in The History of Madison County. Apparently there was a merge with my page and Anita Buck & James Thomas causing this. She has not listed information on the wives other than adding the children. She has added siblings... that I do not have listed... So we must search for records to figure this out. Most likely he was married multiple times and the book does not mention it..... I have the marriage date for he and Delina but nothing is listed for the other two. Will search for records. There is another William David who was born later so I will suspect there are many more in the line to create confusion.

After he was first married he lived in Cannon county, Tennessee with wife Delina Walker Hollis, November 26,1833 in Rutherford County Tennessee.

In the fall of 1837the family moved to Texas in a wagon. They crossed the Trinity River at Robin's Ferry, where the Old San Antonio and LaBahia Roads come together.

The Hollis family was one of the first 12 families who settled Madison County. 1842 he served in the war. In 1855 the family moved Madison County to a community that was later named Hollis, for them in the west part of the county.

He and his wife are married in the Rock Prairie Cemetery, Madison County, TX.

When Discussing the Hollis Family the book, The History of Madison County, references William David Hollis Junior and his two brothers coming from Luisiana after the Civil War. They named and settled the Hollis Community located between Shady Grove and Rock Prairie. It states he came with his two brothers WB and Charles B.... it seems that these were not brothers but children.
