About William W Holman, II

http://holmansofamerica.blogspot.com/

Born about 1595 (aged 40 on 20 June 1635). Husbandman from Northampton, Northamptonshire who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1635 on the "Defence" & settled in Cambridge. (On 20 June 1635, "W[illia]m Hoeman," aged 40, husbandman, "his wife, Winifred," aged 35, with "5 children, Hannah, 8, Jeremy, 6, Mary, 4, Sarra, 2, Abraham, 1 quarter," were enrolled at London, with certificates of conformity from All Saints, Northampton, as passengers for New England). Died in Cambridge MA, 8 January 1652[/3]. Married by 1627 Winifred _____. She died at Cambridge on 16 October 1671, "aged 74 years" (a slight exaggeration, by comparison with her age at migration, and with the age of her youngest child). (On 1 November 1626, "William Holman, widower," married "Winifred Henchman" at Preston Capes, Northamptonshire; this may well be the immigrant couple, but further research is indicated.) Pope distributed information on this information in three places, under the surnames "Homan, Hoeman," "Holman, Homar, Holdman," and "Homwood." Savage split his information between "Holman" and "Homwood." BIBLIOGRAPHIC NOTE: In 1913 John William Linzee published a very well documented account of this immigrant and his children, including complete transcripts of the documents regarding the accusations of witchcraft against his wife and daughter. In 1938 Mary Lovering Holman prepared an account of this family, with a strong emphasis on daughters Mary and Seeth. In 1986 Arlene M. Genny published an extremely frustrating article on this family, in which she announced the discovery of the marriage of the immigrant and of the baptisms of five children of this couple, but, because of the didactic orientation of the article, failed to include the dates of these events.
