9. William3 Joyner (William2, Thomas1) was born in Isle of Wight Co, VA about 1678. William died 1758 in Southampton Co, VA, at 80 years of age.

He married Elinor Smelly in Isle of Wight Co, VA, about 1727. Elinor was born in Isle of Wight Co, VA about 1700.

William Joyner and Elinor Smelly had the following children:

  1. Elizabeth Joyner was born in Isle of Wight Co, VA 1726. She married Sampson Underwood in Isle of Wight Co, VA, about 1739. Sampson was born 1722. Sampson died March 15, 1799 in Isle of Wight Co, VA, at 76 years of age. His will was written and signed by Sampson on Aug 28 1797. This has led to a difference in death dates. (See Sampson Underwood for the continuation of this line.)
  2. William Joyner was born in Isle of Wight Co, VA about 1730.
  3. Israel Joyner was born in Isle of Wight Co, VA about 1732. Israel died 1777 in Southampton Co, VA, at 45 years of age.
  4. Ann Joyner was born in Isle of Wight Co, VA about 1734. Ann died 1782 at 48 years of age.
  5. Lewis Joyner was born in Isle of Wight Co, VA about 1736.
  6. Moses Joyner was born in Southampton Co, VA about 1738. Moses died September 25, 1783 in Wake County, North Carolina, at 45 years of age.
  7. Giles Joyner was born about 1740. Giles died 1802 at 62 years of age.

Notes

William married Eleanor Smalley. On 22 Apr 1708, he sold Robert Smalley, in exchange for 220 acres, the 520 acres patented by his father on 20 Sep 1683 (Ref: Deed Book 2). He wrote his will in Southampton on 25 Oct 1757, recorded 9 Nov 1758. Names daughter Elizabeth Underwood; sons William, Lewis, Moses, Giles; wife Elinor. Witnesses: Wm. Haynes, Joseph Joyner, John Joyner.[1]
