1880 Census lived in Barclay City Bradford Co 1900 Enumerator of the Census Jefferson Co. Immigrated to the Us in 1870. Had 13 Children 9 survived. From the family notes of Ada (Lyle) Hyames " During the time of the cholera in the United States the authorities would not permit anyone to land. Uncle William, then about twenty years old was working at Moncton, New Brunswick. He was talking with a girl, who worked at the hotel and she asked him why he stayed there when so many were dying, and William said he guessed he would leave. The next morning the girl was dead. Uncle William was crossing to the island PEI with a boat load They were signaled not to land so they drew out and anchored. In the night Uncle William tied his clothes on his head, swam to shore- Summerside and walked home. Grandpa (Daniel Lyle) didn't know how he got home and was provoked because he came home without a grippe(suitcase) or anything. Grandpa and Uncle William didn't get along well so he left home when young. William married Anne. They lived in Pennsylvania and had eleven or 12 children. From the diary of Eva (Lyle) Plant sister to Ada Hyames " William Lyle, son of Daniel Lyle and Elizabeth Carr married Anne. Twelve Children. All lived and worked in the coal mining district of Pennsylvania. He was a good steady boy, good working, no bad habits. " According to William's sister Libbie " William was born January 9, 1835. We were brought up in the Presbyterian Church. Our names are all recorded on our church book in baptism. William was a great boy for books. Will was not very strong. our mother died December 30, 1849. When she was near her last, we children were brought into her room. She had bid all the rest goodbye. Our father was a good father. He kept us all in the home and we always had plenty to eat, drink and wear. My brother William was not a strong man. He gave up working in the mines a good many years ago. His family was a large one. Child died in Nova Scotia and another soon after they came to Pennsylvania. His oldest son Dan won a Carnegie Gold Medal for bravery in a mine accident. He was killed in saving others.
