William Mudie, here treated, is identified as William Mudie, younger of Melsetter by the Marquis of Ruvigny and Raineval. He was the eldest son of Francis Mudie of Breckness (afterwards of Melsetter) and his first wife Margaret Stewart. The Moodie Book He is also identified as the eldest son and apparent heir of Francis Mudie of Breckness in a charter dated 1 December 1625. NRS: GD217/60
William Mudie, here treated, had possession of the eighteen penny land of Breckness. His father transferred ownership of this land to him on 1 December 1625. NRS: GD217/60
Death
According to the Moodie Book, William Mudie of Melsetter, younger, died before July 1631. The Moodie Book He was certainly dead before 25 January 1634 when his younger brother James is identified as the eldest son of Francis Mudie of Melsetter.
