About William Archibald Paxton
William Archibald Paxton was born in Barton on the Heath in Warwickshire on 15 September 1818.
He was awarded a Master Of Arts degree from Trinity College, Oxford in 1844 and in 1850 became the Rector of Otterden near Faversham in Kent: “The living is a rectory, value £307 per annum, in the gift of the late William Gill, Esq. The Church is an elegant building of brick and stone. The population in 1841 was 205.” This living was through family connections, as William Gill Paxton was his father’s cousin.
