About the beginning of the year 1837 James and Eliza Rayner, with their three children, William, Lucy and Robert, sailed from England on board the "Resource," and after a voyage lasting about six months, they landed at Sydney on 24th June, 1837...

They had seven children. They had a daughter Sarah who gave evidence in court on what she saw of the lightning.

Children born to William and Ann at Mudgee: 1856 Sarah A; 1857 Male (William James?); 1860 Richard H; 1861 John E; 1863 Thomas R; 1866 Albert P.

Death by Lightning at Mudgee (Empire, Sat 6 Feb 1869); summarised:

William Rayner: His house was hit by lightning in 1869 at Sawpit Flat, near Bocoble, and it killed his wife Ann.
