William Rea is the son of William Rea, brewer and his wife Barbara Anderson. He was born on 5 May 1801 and his baptism was registered at Dundee in Angus, Scotland, on 10 May 1801. He was named after his father [Registrar General for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh, Dundee Baptisms, 1795-1802, reference OPR.282/8].

Death of Wife

William Rea appears still to have been alive on 27 May 1835, the day that his wife, Catherine McNab, was buried in Dundee's Howff Graveyard Friends of Dundee City Archives: Howff Graveyard of Dundee

William Rea, seaman, age 35-39, was living in the same household, at Middle Street in Dundee, as the following individuals, when the census was enumerated on 6 June 1841: James Rea, mill foreman, age 35-39, Matilda Rae, age 40-44, William Rea, age 14, Helen Rea, age 12, and David Rea, age 10 [Registrar General for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh, Census Return for 1841, registration district number 282 (Dundee), enumeration book number 7, pp. 2-3].

William Rea, sailor, married Catherine Combs McNab on 15 February 1827 Dundee Marriage Records The marriage record reads as follows: "William Rea Sailor & Catherine, daur. of George McNabb, Musician, both in this parish".They were contracted on 16 December 1826 and married on 15 February 1827 [Registrar General for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh, Dundee Marriages,1820-29, reference OPR.282/21]
