William Robert was the son of Isom and Mary Martha McGill Stanton. He was the brother of Mary Marintha Stanton Glenn, wife of David Johnston Glenn Jr. He married Anne Glenn daughter of Robert and Pamela McGill Glenn, November 13, 1872 at Clover, South Carolina. Their children were William Wallace Stanton b. July 15, 1874, and Edwin Manning Stanton b. August 17, 1877.
