William Francis Roemer

William F. Roemer, 77, of 422 Angela Blvd., a professor of philosophy at the University of Notre Dame for 38 years, died at 2:45 a.m. today at Cardinal Nursing Home. He had been ill for four years with Parkinson's disease.

Dr. Roemer had also served on the faculties of St. Mary's College and Indiana University of Indiana at South Bend. He had been a Jury Commissioner for St. Joseph County and as a member of St. Joseph's Parish, where he worked with the needy and migrant workers for 25 years through the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

He was born March 4, 1894 in Celina, Ohio. He received his BA degree from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., his MA degree from St. Louis University, and his PhD from Notre dame. He was a former president of the Indiana chapter of the American Philosophical Assn.

On June 16, 1925, he married Carmel Luther, who survives, along with a daughter, Mrs. Mary Kusbach of South Bend; five sons, William F. Jr. of South highland Ill., Joseph E. of Santa Clara, Calif., and Thomas J., James a., and Charles W., all of South Bend; 27 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call today from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at the McGann Funeral Home, where the family will lead the rosary at 7:30 p.m..

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Donald Guertin, Rev. Leo R. War, and Rev. Joseph Hoffman will officiate.

Burial will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
