In 1911 William Thomas' widow Nancy applied for a widow's pension. In her application a statement by Jordan Flanders says that William Thomas was discharged April 1862, not in late 1861 as the above indicates.
"Georgia Emanuel County. I John R. Flanders, Ordinary, of said County, do hereby Certify that I knew W. Thomas Scott, and that I served with him in the War in Co, C, 38th Georgia, Regiment. I served with him from the 29th day of August 1861 until the latter part of March or the very first days of April 1862. Then he was discharged a time or two after that on account of his general bad health. He was discharged near Savannah Georgia on or about the first days of April 1862. I further Certify that his Widow Nancy. G. Scott to whose application is attached is still living and is one of the most worthy subjects that I know of. Ordinary of Emanuel County." Signed, "John R. Flanders this May 13,1911."
On 9 November 1864 William was appointed county constable.86
He was listed as head of household in the 1870 census in Emanuel County, Georgia.128 District 46, Pg. 330, Visit 60/60 Scott, William T. (32); Nancy (42), James M. (6), William P.(4), Sidney A. (1). William Thomas had $0 real property, $344 personal property. He could not read or write. Living next door was Nancy's brother William A. Flanders.
He was required by Sheriff William Cannady to sell property in favor of M. B. Eve on 19 June 1874.129
