1865: William born in Swinbrook to Mark and Elizabeth Simpson.

1871 census: age 5, living in Swinbrook with mother Elizabeth and 2 sisters (father Mark dead).

1881 census: age 15, agricultural labourer, living with mother in Swinbrook.

1890: age 24, a labourer, married Emily Prosser in Dingestow, Monmouthshire (his residence illegible).

1891 census: age 25, a platelayer, living at 1, New Houses, Brithwynydd Road, Ystradyfodwyg, Home Penrhys, with wife Emily and her son William.

1901 census: age 35, at 3, Taff Cottages, Llwynypia, Ystradyfodwg, Glamorgan, with wife Emily, 6 children plus William Prosser and visiting mother-in-law, Mary Ann Prosser.

1903: death of wife Emily.

1909 (Jul-Sep): married 2nd wife, Lize Lovett, in Pontypridd

1911 census: living at 3, Taff Cottages, with Lize and children Mark (18) and Emily Jane (10). Foreman platelayer with Taff Vale railway Company.

1936: Died at 51 Stanway Road, Cardiff UD. (death notified by daughter Lily M. Lyons of Llwynypia - address where William lived in 1901).
