Sir John Smith, Knt., appointed Remembrancer of the Exchequer 12 Jan. 1513, and 2nd Baron of the same, I Aug. 1540. He d., seised of Cressing Temple, White Notley, half the hundred of Witham, and lands in cos. Middlesex, Herts, Camb., Norfolk, Suffolk, Surrey, Salop, Hereford, and Warwick. His will was proved 31 July, 1547. He m. 1st, Alice, dau. and co-heir of Edward Woode, citizen and grossier of London, by whom he had issue...
Sir John, m. 2ndly, Agnes, 5th dau. of John Harewell, of Wootton Wawen...and by her had issue...
8) William, of White Notley, bur. there 7 April 1625 ; he m. Grace, dau. of Robert Cooke, of Bokinge, Essex, & had issue: Thomas, William, Edward (whose grandson, Edward entered his ped.at the Vis. London 1687), Francis, Matthew, & 2 daus.
