Katherine (?Jennings) (1st wife of John Goad) Last listed in 1738 deed. Acc to Ref 4 below, she was Katherine Jennings, b 1703 Richmond Co, d 23 May 1741 Richmond Co, d/o John Jennings and Eve Smyth (d/o William Smyth).

On 3/24/1699, William Smyth (or Smith) sold Abraham Goard [Goad] a parcel of 150 acres of land in Richmond Co, VA, for 6,000 pounds of tobacco (DB 3, p54). The house and plantation of William Smyth was situated on this land. William Smith was the father-in-law of Abraham’s wife Katherine Williams. He had written his will the month before and died six months later. This land was part of 498 acres owned by William Smith. It was located on the north side of the Rappahannock River on Farnham and Morattico Creeks, near Bryery Swamp.

Eve died in October 1704 in Richmond Co.29 She is found in the Old Rappahannock Co records in a marriage contract with William Smith, a carpenter, dated 3/9/1680 (DB 6, p179). “The contract … recites that Eve is the widow of John Williams, has two children, John and Katherine, and provides for separate estates between her and Smith during their marriage.”47

William Smyth (or Smith) wrote his will on 2/9/1698 (Richmond Co, VA, WB 2)114, and it was proven eight months later on 10/2/1699.47,81 “He left bequests to Hannah and John Goad, (Sr.), children of Abraham and Catherine Goad, and then devised the residue to his wife, Eve Smith.”47
