About William Thomas

  • William Thomas at the age of 19 years was sentenced to 14 years to the penal colony of New South Wales.
  • He arrived into Botany Bay NSW on the 21st March 1817 on board the ship HMS "Sir William Bensley".
  • On the 31st July 1823, William was given permission to pass to No.8 Township with cattle.
  • In 1825, her was one of the convicts mustered in the employ of John Howe of Windsor.
  • On the 27th August 1825, William became employed by John Howe of Windsor
  • William had accompanied Major Thomas Mitchell (Surveyor General) as a bullock driver, butcher and was allowed to carry a musket, bayonet and pistol while exploring the great interior of NSW. Her as given a ticket of leave and was also granted freedom from servitude in 1836.
  • William married Ann Phillips who was also a convict.
