About William Poindexter Thomasson
"Mr. Thomasson when a boy volunteered in the War of 1812; he was a lawyer by profession and began his practice in Corydon, Indiana, in 1817. He was a member of the Legislature in that State before he became of age. In 1841 he removed to Louisville, Ky,. and was soon elected to Congress as a Whig, serving from Dec., 1843 to Mar., 1847. He practiced law in Chicago for a time and at the breaking out of the war in 1861, entered the Union Army as Colonel of an Illinois regiment and was wounded at the first battle of Bull Run." per Manning Leonard's book on Solomon Leonard's descendants
