William VAN CLEAVE Jr. was born on 9 Oct 1781 in Kentucky. He died on 27 Feb 1855 in Ozark, Johnson County, Illinois. William was born in Garrard County, Kentucky shortly after the area was opened for settlement, and he grew to manhood there. After he married his cousin Elizabeth the first six of their ten children were born there. The family moved to Bedford County, Tennessee, some time between the birth of their daughter Abigail (b. 1818-1819) and the date of the 1820 census. perhaps it was necessary to settle the suit over the title of the land his father acquired in Mercer County before the family could move to Tenessee. The four youngest children were born there. The family moved next in 1835 to Calloway County near the western border of Kentucky. In 1852, after William was 70, he and Elizabeth went to Ozark, Johnson County, Illinois where their son Wilson and family moved two years earlier.
