The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor (First Award) to Sergeant William Wilson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 28 March 1872, while serving with Company I, 4th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Colorado Valley, Texas, in pursuit of a band of cattle thieves from New Mexico.
