W. A. WURTS RETIRED BY READING COMPANY Served as City Freight Agent 26 Years After 26 years of service with the Reading company, William A. Wurts, 1319 Delaware Ave., Wyomissing, was retired yesterday as city freight agent, a position he has held for the past 26 years. His place will be taken by J. Warren Lawson, traveling freight agent of the company, with headquarters in Rochester, N. Y. Wurts entered the employ of the Reading company in 1879 as a telegraph operator at the head of Gordon Plane. He came to Reading in 1907, and has remained here since.. Previous to locating permanently here, he was named traveling freight agent, operating out of Reading. He traveled throughout eastern Pennsylvania, upper New Jersey and New York. He continued in this position until his appointment in Reading. Wurts has been active for many years in railroad circles. He is a member of the Reading Company club, the Reading company Y. M. C. A., and the Veteran Employes' association. Active in Reading Chamber of Commerce work, he at one time held the chairmanship of the freight traffic committee. He is still a member of the committee.
