William was knighted 1713. William was created a Baronet 19/02/1714. A merchant in London trading with Turkey, he acquired a great fortune.
In 1707 he was appointed Governor of the Bank of England.
In 1713 he was knighted and on 19 February 1714 created a Baronet.
Married twice, he was father of at least thirteen children. When he died aged sixty, he was buried at St. Catherine Cree church, London. Of St. Dunstans in the East in London.
