Die Burger Afrikaans daily reports that the Laingsburg Farmers Association deputy-chairman Chrisjan van der Vyver said the community is shocked about the murder on bachelor-farmer Willie Clarence, 59, who lived alone on his farm Slypsteenkop between Laingsburg and Touwsrivier (WC). His family didn't discover that he was murdered until two days after his death - he was discovered murdered by a neighbouring farmer on Wednesday, said his eldest daughter Elzette to Die Burger Afrikaans daily. "We suspect that my dad was murdered last Monday-evening,' she was quoted as saying. A 17-year-old youth was arrested by the Lainsburg police, she said. "The youth had been watching my dad's movement throughout the day. At one stage my dad parked his bakkie at the storage shed, walked home and worked on his tractor. He went inside the homestead to fix powder-milk for the calves and went to the kraal. The youth allegedly went inside the homestead at that stage and may have stolen a firearm. He shot my father dead from behind, in his back. It doesn't appear as if my father had seen him.' Nobody had suspected that anything was amiss until one of the local farmers stopped on the farm on Wednesday-morning. "He head my dad's dog Leeu barking and when he investigated, he found my dad's body.'
