(Printed form with the underlined sections filled in) Know all men t\by these presents, that we Perlina Washburn, as principal, and as sureties, all of the County of Muscatine, in the state of Iowa, are held and firmly bound unto the county aforesaid. For the use of all persons herein concerned, in the penal sum of one hundred dollars, for the payment of which, well and truly to be made, we do jointly and severlly bind ourselves and our lawful representatives. Witness our hands this 7 day of August A.D., 1877. The condition of the above obligation is such, that, whereas, the above named Perlina Washburn has been appointed by the circuit court of said county, sitting as a court of probate. Administrator of the estate of Yates Washburn deceased, late of said county, who died intestate on or about 16 day of May A.D. 1876 (with a "7" written over the "6") to administer all and singular his goods and chattels, moneys, rights, and credits according to law. Now, if the said Perlina Washburn shall discharge all duties which are now or may be hereafter required of her as such administratrix, then these presents to be void; otherwise to remain in full force and effect in law. In the matter of the estate if Yates Washburn deceased The undersigned adiux of above named estate would respectfully state to the court that on the 30th day of August 1877, she was appointed adiux of said estate for the sole purpose of bringing suit against he Chicago Rock Island and Pacific Rail Road Company, that suit was never communicated against said company, neither has she ever had any money or gratuity of any kind belonging to said estate, where fore she asks that she may be discharged from said trust then ? released. . To The circuit court in and for the said county  The undersigned respectfully shows that Yates Washburn a resident of said county departed this life on the 16th day of May 1877 and that he left surviving him no widow or children That the undersigned is the mother of said deceased and next of kin, and that the estate of said deceased has certain rights which it is necessary that an administrator to look after   ? petitioner therefore asks that she may be appointed administratrix of the estate of said Yates Washburn upon giving bond as required by law   Attest L.H Washburn						Perlina X (her mark) Washburn  Sworn to and subscribed before me this 7th day of August 1877 Witness my hand and notarial seal  L. Washburn  Notary Public  Ordered that upon the filing of a bond in the sum of one hundred dollars with approved security that letters of administration issue unto Perlina Washburn as herein prayed  J.H. Muinor Clerk   I included the story from the journal, it is really gross, but it explains why his mother was going to sue the railroad.  The Muscatine Journal Thursday May 17 1877  A Shocking Affair Yates Washburn ran over, horribly mangled and killed by the cars on the island.  This morning the shocking news was brought up town that Yates Washburn an unmarried man, aged about 40 years living in Musserville, had been killed on the railroad tracks near what is known as "Musser's Crossing", opposite Brent's factory, at the head of the Island.  The remains were found near the crossing about 5 o'clock by Irving Earl.  The body was horribly mangled, being nearly cut in two and part of the bowls and lungs scattered along the track a distance of probably fifty feet.  A great part of the person seemed contused and jammed into pulp.  The body was dragged from West to east and must have been run over by an eastward bound freight train during the night. Coroner Scott was summoned and held an inquest this forenoon, the jury rendering a verdict in accordance with the facts.  One witness testified that he saw deceased about 8 o'clock last evening walking up the railroad tracks toward town but did not see him again until called to the inquest. The victim, of this horrible accident was an old resident of this city here since boyhood. He lived with his mother, a widow, and with a brother followed the vocation of fishing. He was a man of good social qualities, and was well liked by al his acquaintances. The facts elicited at the inquest are all the particulars known of this  terrible affair.
