Zachariah Isbell BIRTH 1790 Greene County, Tennessee, USA DEATH 1858 (aged 67–68) Shelby County, Alabama, USA BURIAL Pleasant Grove Cemetery Vandiver, Shelby County, Alabama, USA MEMORIAL ID 157327620 · View Source SHARE SAVE TOSUGGEST EDITS MEMORIAL PHOTOS 2 FLOWERS 1 Add Photos Request Photo Picture of Added by Ray Isbell Zachariah Isbell was born 1790 probably in Greene County, Tennessee. He died in Shelby County, Alabama, 1850-60, probably around 1858. He was living there in the 1850 census. Pat Brown's family tree says he is probably buried in Vandiver, Alabama. If he is at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery where his daughter is buried, his grave is now unmarked or unreadable.
Some family trees show his birth as Surry Co., N.C.; others as Tennessee, while the 1850 census says Georgia. 1820 census: Warren Co., TN. 1830 census: Jackson Co., AL. 1850 census: Shelby Co., AL. The 1850 census shows he had married his second wife Frances (b.1800 GA) by this time and lists both of them as born in Georgia. Since she was a Georgia native, perhaps the census taker assumed both of them were.
A History of Texas and Texans (1914), by Frank W. Johnson, vol. 5, p.2179: "Zachariah Isbell passed his life in the vicinity of Shelby County, Alabama, dying there at an advanced age." (Genealogy of the Isbell Family by Mary Scott, p.138).

Genealogy of the Isbell Family (1929) by Mary Isbell Scott, pp. 138-41, covers his family but seems to confuse him with his grandfather Zachariah Isbell.
An article by Ken R. Isbell in TOBUCKSY NEWS (McAlester, Oklahoma), Vol. 18, No. 3 (September 2001), pp. 24-26, incorrectly refers to this Zachariah Isbell as Zachariah Isbell III, and follows through his son William (born 1817) to his son George Washington Isbell (1840-1907) who moved to Oklahoma.
