Zela ("Zip") Lapufsky (Lasky)

Zela Lasky immigrated to the United States from Russia when he was a young boy. His last name was Lapufsky but it was changed to Lasky when he came through Ellis Island. Zela became a US citizen on November 15, 1935 at the age of 32. It is believed that he only stayed in school until the 5th grade. He was confirmed at the age of 13 on 1/22/1916. His family was Orthodox. He became a waiter and worked at a men's club in Newark as well as on catering jobs.
