Zerline Berlin

From a private family history by John Joseph Thal, a great grandson of Zerline Berlin:

"From what I heard from some of the grandchildren of Samuel and Zerline Berlin, Samuel was a typical intellectual, very educated, but not a real go-getter. Great-grandmother Zerline appears to have been the boss of the family. She was the daughter of a hop dealer in Gunzenhausen, a small place in the Bavaria Province of Mittelfranken. She was not a doting grandmother, but my father was very fond of her. Mother told me that when at the wedding the rabbi said something of 'Grandmother looking down from heaven and joining . . . .' (She died shortly before), father cried."

"Samuel and Zerline Berlin lived to celebrate their golden wedding, which was very rare in those days."
