About william henry foster
William H. Foster married Sarah Margaret Nichols. They had 10 children. He was a farmer until he was blinded by a childhood disease, either measles or scarlet fever. He was very young, perhaps 30 years old, when he became blind. He had a seeing eye dog, Trixie, and he played the violin. He also had a good music system so he could listen to classical music. He read braille and received The Congressional Record regularly. When the eldest child reached 18, William and Sarah moved to Kirksville, Mo. so their children could go to college.
