My opinion is that De Villiers Pama vol 1 has been misquoted here.
On page 264 she is correctly, in my opinion, listed as the daughter of Hans Harms.
Who her mother was is not quite clear.

I agree that she is not a daughter of Jan Potgieter and want to suggest that she is not the daughter of Hans Harms either.

The patronymic makes it clear that her father was one Harmen. I've been looking for a baptism entry around 1717 but have had no luck so far.

On page 284 of DP she is only referred to as
b8 Aletta x Dirk Booysen.
The baptism of b7 Engela is 10 Sept 1752 so that Aletta probably later than that.
However on page 68 b2 Dirk is indicated as marring Aletta Harmens on 8 February 1733.
Jan Harms only indicated as arriving in 1734. So probably not his daughter .

I started http://www.geni.com/discussions/114126 asking the same question as you Dennis since we did not get final clarity in http://www.geni.com/threads/6000000018058500184?page=1.
I hope we will get conclusive source documentation now.

I found this today on a Booysen website:
The is doubt about the parents of ALETTA HARMENS, who married DIRK BOOYSEN of Drakenstein ‎(2nd son of Boy Booysen, the progenitor of the Booysen family in South Africa)‎ on 8 Feb. 1733 ‎(Cape)‎ - family listed in De Villiers Pa ma, vol. 1, p. 68, sub b2.

Dr J.A. Heese was of the opinion that she was a daughter of JAN ‎(Johannes)‎ HARMENSZ POTGIETER ‎(1674-?)‎.

If this is true then was Aletta a daughter of Potgieter's first wife CLARA HERBST ‎(married 1702)‎, or of his second wife MARIA CATHARINE VAN EEDEN ‎(married 1714)‎? Heese apparently favoured the latter. Aletta did have a daughter called Maria and two of her children married van Eedens.

Similar remarks were made above, as well as in:
http://www.geni.com/discussions/114126 and http://www.geni.com/threads/6000000018058500184?page=1
and were disputed by Jansi on the "patronymic" grounds.
I guess we will have to find her baptism source before I would feel comfortable.
