My 3 x great grandfather was James Hudson, who came to the Cape in 1820 from Liverpool on the "John". There appears to be conflicting info w.r.t. Mary Ann Hudson who was apparently married to Henry Hudson who died onboard before the ship sailed. I gather there was an infant named Richard too. Some trees have Mary as a sister to Hougham Hudson from Kent who also made the trip in 1820 to the Cape and other trees indicating her as a second wife to Henry Hudson and her maiden surname as Walker. Any assistance would be most helpful as I have yet to find any documentation for this family other than a few baptisms for the children of James Hudson and his wife Antoinette Annie Lehman in Durbanville, Cape. Regards Dawn

Enjoying adding the Harding family tree to your site. As a beginner I have a long way to go trying to put the dots together..

My maternal great grandfather was James Donald Robertson, born in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, Scotland on 9 March 1831. He married a South African, Rebecca Harriet Keightley (I think from King Williamstown). He died in South Africa in 1898. What I would like to know is when (and why) he came to South Africa. I think his parents were James Gilbert Stewart Robertson (12 February 1831) and Jane Ann (Dott) Robertson but I have no real evidence of this. I also know he and his family (including my grandmother) visited his family in Scotland when she was a teenager but his name does not appear on any of the passenger lists. I would love to follow the trail mainly because I married a Robertson and there does not appear to be a link between the two families in the 19th century, so it goes way back. Is anyone able to help me?

Thanks for the 'bigger picture' - I found different Stokes families who were not 1820 Settlers. We can share information?
