Szent Imre herceg (Székesfehérvár, 1000–1007 között – Veszprém közelében, 1031. szeptember 2.) I. István király és Gizella királyné fia.

Szent Imre herceg I. István király és Gizella királyné fia. Az uralkodó házaspár gyerekeiből, valószínű több volt belőlük, csak kettőnek a neve maradt fenn: Ottó, aki valószínűleg 1000 előtt született (a krónikák szerint 1002 előtt keresztelték meg, és korán halt meg), valamint Imre neve. Imre nevét, valószínűleg anyai nagybátyja. II. Henrik német-római császár után kapta. Életéről krónikák és legendák alapján vannak csak információk. Születésére nézve egyes források 1000-et jelölnek meg, míg a krónikák szerint 24 éves korában halt meg, így valószínűbb, hogy 1007-ben született. Halálának pontos helye sem ismert, valószínűleg egy vadkan öklelte fel a bihari Igfon-erdőben (az országnagyok kedvelt vadászterületén). Itt épült fel a XI.-XII. század fordulóján a Szent Imre apátság épülete (szentté avatása után). Mivel a középkori szokás szerint a szentek halálának helyszínén monostort építettek, így ez is ezt erősíti meg. Holttestét az akkor még épülő fehérvári bazilikában helyezték el.

VII. Gergely pápa 1083. november 4-én I. Istvánnal és Gellért püspökkel együtt szentté avatta.

Saint Emeric of Hungary Prince St. Imre, also Henricus, Emeric, Emerick, Emmerich, Emericus or Americus (Székesfehérvár (Hungary), about 1000 to 1007 – 2 September 1031) was the son of King St. Stephen I of Hungary and Giselle of Bavaria. He is assumed[1] to be the second son of Stephen, he was named after his uncle, St. Henry II, and was the only of Stephen's sons who reached adulthood.

Emeric was educated in a strict and ascetic spirit by the bishop of Csanád, St. Gerhard (St. Gellért) from the age of 15 to 23. He was intended to be the next monarch of Hungary, and his father wrote admonitions to prepare him for this task. His father tried to make Emeric co-heir still in his lifetime.

He married in the year 1022.[2] The indentity of his wife is disputed.*Some say it was Irene Monomachina, a relative of Byzantine emperor Constantine IX Monomachos,

• or a female member of the Argyros family to which Byzantine emperor Romanos III Argyros belonged.
• Other say it was Patricissa of Croatia, the daughter of Krešimir III of Croatia.
• Another possible person may have been Adelaide/Rixa of Poland or one of her unnamed sisters.

But his father's plans could never be fulfilled: on 2 September 1031 Emeric was killed about 24 years old by a boar while hunting. It is assumed[1] that this happened in Hegyközszentimre (presently Sintimreu). He was buried in the church of Székesfehérvár. Several wondrous healings and conversions happened at his grave, so on 5th November 1083 King Ladislaus I unearthed Emeric's bones in a big ceremony, and Emeric was canonised for his pious life and purity along with his father and Bishop Gerhard by Pope Gregory VII.

St. Emeric is most often pictured in knight's armour with crown and lily.
