The 1790 Maine Census shows David Harthorn living in Hancock County Maine with one female, presumably his wife Abigail, and no others in the household. This suggests their marriage was close to 1790 (some sources show 1792). The 1800 US Census shows David Harthorn living in Bangor, Maine with no females above age 25, one female 16-25, 3 males under 10 and 2 females under 10. This confirms Abigail's birth date as no earlier than late 1774 (some sources show 1773). It is also consistent with the recorded birth dates of the children as follows:
