About Abner Emmett Tharp
Abner E. Tharp, 80, of Waynesburg R.D.1, died at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 1981, in Greene County Memorial Hospital following an illness of the past several weeks. He was born February 18, 1900, in Franklin Township, near Waynesburg, a son of John C. and Anna Grimm Tharp. He had spent his entire life in the Waynesburg area. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Waynesburg and the church Loyal Partners Sunday School Class. Mr. Tharp for several years worked as an employee of the Waynesburg Park Commission and was a farmer and stock raiser. He was twice married. His first wife, Mildred Tustin Tharp, died January 6, 1958. Surviving from his first marriage are three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Erma Jean) Carroll of Belle Vernon, Mrs. Russell (Martha) Grim of Wind Ridge and Mrs. Orvile (Sara) King of Waynesburg; and two sons, John Robert Tharp of McKeesport and Charles Raymond of Waynesburg. His second wife, Ethel Straight Tharp, survives. A step-son Charles Edwin Straight of Hookstown R.D.1 survives, as do 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; a sister, Mrs. Lottie Ullom of Waynesburg R.D.4; and several nieces and nephews. Four sisters and five brothers are deceased.
Friends of Abner E. Tharp of Waynesburg R.D.1, who died Thursday, January 8, 1981, are being received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Glise E. Mariner and Samuel A. Milliken Funeral Home, North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, January 11, with the Rev. John Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Ruff Creek.
