About Adam Souder Goodbread
Son – Adam Sounder Goodbread This son of Phillip Goodbread Jr. was born in Camden County in Georgia, Sept. 22, 1807, and died 10 miles north of White Springs, in Hamilton County, Florida on Oct. 25, 1887. Was buried in Prospect Cemetery, near his home and the banks of the beloved Suwannee River. As a young man, he crossed St. Mary's River into Florida and reclaimed the plantations of his father, granted when Florida was a British Colony. Nassau County, Florida deeds show that his father was also living there in 1839. The 1840 census reflect that his father was deceased but his mother was living in the home of this son Adam. In 1845 Adam Sounder Goodbread was sent to the State Capital at Tallahassee, from Nassau County, as Senator representing the 14th District. In 1846, he was again returned to the Senate, from the 16th District and residing in Hamilton County. It was in Hamilton County that he established his very large plantation, with many slaves, a saw mill, grist mill, cotton gin and press, with the usual general store. In 1837 in Nassau County, Florida, Adam married Miss Elizabeth VanZandt, daughter of William VanZandt and Maria Braddock. She was born in Nassau County, June 11, 1820, died in Hamilton County, Oct. 19, 1864.
