About Agnes Denny
AGNES DENNY
Her Husband's Testament Dative
Agnes Denny gave up the testament dative and inventory of her deceased husband on 16 February 1678. The Commissary of Glasgow recognized her as: "relict of the defunct" and "lawll creditrix to him" in respect of a marriage contract dated 14 November 1664, by which her husband had promised to pay her three hundred merks Scots, with the yearly annualrent of the sum of six hundred merks. Colin Lyon was owed one hundred and sixty-eight pounds by John Leckie, merchant in Glasgow. No provision was made for children, from which fact it may be supposed that none were still living at the time of his death. James Clelland, merchant in Glasgow, acted himself as cautioner for Agnes Denny and confirmation was granted to her on 18 March 1679.
