    PORTER -- Alberta Katherine Welch, 73, of Pine St., passed away peacefully on April 13, 2008, at Bridgton Hospital with all of her children by her side.

    She was born in Plymouth , N.H., the daughter of Bert G. and Dorothy M. Houston Tarr. Alberta grew up and was educated in Porter schools but also lived in Steep Falls and Sebago.

    Mrs. Welch worked many years at the Cornish Dress Shop as a steam presser. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, bird watching, reading, visiting with friends, cooking special meals for family, and talking on the phone with her grandchildren.

    Her husband, John A. Welch, died on May 25, 1984. Surviving are four daughters, two sons and their families, Mary L. Fisher of Wakefield, N.H., Jacqueline L. Verrill of Porter, Sydney L. Sprague of North Berwick, Shannon D. Johnson of Limerick, John M. of Porter and Bob J. of South Hiram; two sisters, Betty Hunter of St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada and Janette Keough of Harrisville, N.H.; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren and last but not least her faithful (dog) companion, Benji.

    A visiting hour will be held at 1 p.m. followed by memorial service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Neal & York Funeral Home, 12 High St., Porter. Pastor David Gilpatric will officiate. Online condolences may be sent at www.nealyork.com.
