About Alexander Mackey, Sr.

Alexander's father is said to be William Mackey that may have been from Scotland and settled in in or near Kingston in the Hudson River Valley in current New York State. Alexander likely died in Ulster County, sometime after the 1790 U.S. census for Ulster County, New York was taken. His exact date of death and place of burial is not known at this time. The land owned by Alexander is said it be on the Hudson River. It seems most likely Alexander, Rymerick as well as other family members are buried on his family farm in his apple orchard as was the custom of the times. Source, A genealogy of the Quick family in America (1625-1942), 317 years by Arthur Craig Quick. Jurian Quick was listed as residing in the Town of Rochester, Ulster County, as late as 1718. In 1720-21 he purchased from Alexander Griggs a one-half interest, or 600 acres, in the Griggs and Graham Patent granted in 1712. The patent covering lands bordering on "Old Man's Kill" is in what is now known as the Town of Marlborough. In 1724-25 Jurian Quick and his son-in-law Alexander Mackie were living on and paying taxes on this land. In 1727 Jurian leased his interest in the land to Zachariah Hoffman, who had already purchased the other half of the Patent from heirs of Augustus Graham. In 1738 Jurian Quick and Alexander Mackie were enlisted men in the foot company of militia, precinct of the Highlands, Capt. Thos. Ellison. The homestead farm of Alexander Mackie was located on the Patent granted 17 Oct. 1720 to Jacobus Kip & Company. The patent covered the district east, north and west of Orange Lake and was densely timbered, locally known as "Rocky Forest." The location is in the Northwest part of the Town of Newburgh, about seven miles from the City of Newburgh, Orange County, N. Y.—(Orange County and Newburgh, by Ruttenber.) Alexander Mackie and his wife Reymerich Quick are probably buried at Lattintown, Ulster County, in what was at one time an apple orchard on the Joseph Carpenter (founder of Lattintown and First Mayor) property, a burial ground for neighboring families and so used until 1808. More than a hundred of old Marlborough residents were buried there. Alexander Mackey was a freeholder listed as a taxpayer in the precinct of the Highlands, Ulster County, New York from 1724 to 1729. He was enrolled as a member of the Foot Company of the military of the precinct of the Highlands. Source; "The history of the town of Marlborough, Ulster County, New York" by C. M. Woolsey, J.B. Lyon Company, printers, 1908 - Marlborough (N.Y.) Page 96, :On the 29th day of May, 1775 the Provincial Congress directed the committee holding the pledge to return the same by the 15th of July, with the names of signers and those who refused to sign," and in accordance with this resolution Benjamin Carpenter, chairman, and Abijah Perkins, clerk, made return of the names to the New York committee or the Provincial Congress on the 11th day of July. The signers of the Pledge or Articles of Association are as follows, (starting with the 4th name on the Patriot list) Jurian Mackey, Gilbonrl Cotton, Jacob Wood, John Woolsey (Further down) William and Richard Woolsey, Alex JR. Mackey, Alex SR. Mackey and Zephaniah Woolsey. Note; It is not clear from the 1790 census if the above Alex SR is Alex born 1699 or his son born 1729 as the census only gives his age as over 45.
