Richard joined the Orange Lodge with John McArthur.

The people of Nowra have decided to show their appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the district by Mr. John McArthur, J.P., who has recently been overtaken by financial misfortune, by purchasing the Terrara homestead for Mrs. McArthur and family. Between £300 and £400 will be required, and no difficulty appears to be anticipated in obtaining the amount.
