About Altmann von Friedberg
Balog or Balogh was a medieval family or clan of Hungarian nobles which is believed to have been founded by the German knight Altmann von Friedberg, somewhat around 1046, when he settled in the Kingdom of Hungary. The family branches spread over time all throughout the Kingdom of Hungary and within the Austrian Empire and Austro-Hungarian Monarchy during the centuries.
According to the Balogh surame project on FTDNA various YDNA haplogroups are candidates for the haplogroup of the founder of the dynasty Altmann von Friedberg.
In terms of the by far most promising haplogroup I-M223, one I-M223 project member has done deep subclade testing and was determined to be of terminal SNP I-Y7243. It is currently not certain that the other I-M223 members share that same terminal SNP, so further testing would be very useful. Two other members of Széchy surname are positive of I-M223.
