Andrew Thomson, here treated, was a maltman in Glasgow. He is noticed as such on 31 August 1559, in the company of his wife, when they took formal possession of the west part of a barn at Poldrait in Glasgow. Glasgow Protocols II: 501

31 August 1559: William Lowthyane, with consent of William Lowthyane, citizen of Glasgow, his father, and Marion Bell, his mother, sold to Andrew Thomsoune, maltman and ISOBELLA NORMANDE, his spouse, and l. l., the west part of a barn, including a doorway, and the pertinents, lying t.c., beyond the burn of Malyndinor at Powdrait, between other barns on the west and east. Sasine given by Mr. John Hall, bailie. Witnesses: Mychael Bairde, Thomas Spang, Robert Wan, and Robert Burne, serjeant. 29 January 1561-62: Mathew Heriot sold to Andrew Thomsoune an annualrent of seven merks, payable furth of a back tenement of William Androsoune, lying t.c., between the lands of Michael Lyndesay on the north, the lands of Andrew Dunlop on the south, and the street on the east. John Mure, citizen of Glasgow, a fore barn lying on the north side of the street of St. Tenu, between the lands of John Brwme on the north, the lands of Sir Martin Reid on the east, and the lands of q. William Walcar on the west, formerly sold to the said Andrew and Elizabeth by David Landles for the sum of £.30, now also paid to them by the said Margaret Rankyne. 2 March 1568-69: David Landes, baker, and Margaret Baxter, spouses, holders of two reversions, each containing the sum of £15, granted by Andrew Thomson for redemption of a barn lying in the street of St. Tenu, conveyed by them to the said Andrew and afterwards by him to Margaret Rankyn, relict of q. John Mure, citizen of Glasgow; which spouses sold the two reversions to the said Margaret, proprietor of the barn, so that they might be consolidated in her person. 16 April 1569: John Gibsone, burgess of Dunbartane, (vested in a tenement, fore and back, with yard, close, and pertinents, conveyed to him under form of reversion by q. Michael Lindsaye, citizen of Glasgow, lying on the west side of the street leading from the market cross to the South Port, between the lands of q. Thomas Andersoun on the south, and another new tenement of q. Michael on the north), and David Lindsaye, son and heir of Michael (having right to redeem the property), with joint consent, granted in feu-farm to Andrew Thomsone, citizen of Glasgow, and ISABELLA NORMOND, spouses, a piece of waste land lying in the end of the close, containing in length 11 ells and in breadth 15 feet within the wall belonging to the said Andrew; with power to Andrew and Isabella to build thereupon so that it should not be lawful to them to have ingress or egress or any other easement on the north side thereof next the tenement of the said John and David ; and that for the sum of 13 s. 4 d. yearly in name of annualrent. 28 August 1571: Andrew Thomsoune, citizen of Glasgow, and ISABELLA NORMONT, spouses, for implement of their part of a contract of marriage between them and Marion Thomsone, their daughter, on the one part, and John Craig, cordiner, citizen of Glasgow, on the other part, resigned in favour of John and Marioun a back hall, with chamber, and loft built above, extending in length to 8 [and one quarter] ells, lying in the back close, on the west side of the street leading from the market cross to the South Port, at the back of the fore tenement sometime of q. Thomas Andersoun, between the remainder of the granters' tenement on the east and west; with free ingress and egress by the close. Sasine given by Mr. Adam Wallace, bailie. 19 February 1584-85: Thomas Normount, citizen, on account of the coming marriage between Walter Thomesoun, merchant, citizen, and Jean (Jehannem) Normount, his daughter, resigned in favour of the future spouses (1) an acre of land, lying in the old Gallomure, between the lands of Mr. Henry Gibsoun on the east and the lands of Robert Rinking on the west ; and (2) an upper hall, with small chamber, nether cellar, stable, yard, and pertinents; parts of a tenement, fore and back, with yard and pertinents, lying on the south side of the Gallogait, between the lands of James Kirkwood on the west and the burn of Malindinor on the east and south.
