- two only daughters who were heiresses : First, Katherine, daughter of 'Sir Maurice Berkeley, of Beverton, Gloucestershire, by his wife, Anne, daughter of Reginald West, fifth Baron West and first Baron Delawarr'. This Katherine was the sister and heiress of Sir William Berkely, of Stoke Gifford, Gloucester, and also heiress of the manor of Moore, Wiltshire. Sir John Brereton's only child by this consort was Wyburga, who married Sir William Compton, Knight, of Compton Wyniate, Warwickshire ; died 1528. From them were descended the Earl of Northampton family. Sir John Brereton's second wife was Jane, or Joan, daughter and heiress of Sir Geoffrey Masey, of Tatton, the widow of William Stanley, of Tatton, by whom he had one son, Philip, heir to the Tatton estates, who died without issue.
