Arsola Ervin was a farmer and loved to sing quartet. His favorite meal was steak and pinto beans. He was a deacon at St. John Baptist Church in Littlefield Texas.

He was a fun loving person and loved to kid around with his brothers. They would lstomp the floor so hard when laughing when they were all together. The did not see each other that often but was glad when they did.

He was a hard working man. He never said much about his father, and if they did they would make the kids get out. He never spoke much about his mom as well, but his children thought she was mean. His mom use to live 'Across the Creek in Corsicana. She lived in the house on the corner from Mt. Olive Baptist Church. The house still stands to this day. Her house in on the creek, coming to Fifth Street from the church. She had a water well in the back yard and a wood pile.

He would play the pecan game (Old Horse) with his children as well as Come Johnnie Buck. He would whittle his girls dolls out of sticks, and the boys would get cars and trucks.

In West Texas people would eat peanuts because there were no Pecan trees. The also had black walnuts.

He had a nice relationship with his wife, and he always paid his bills...always!

There was always plenty of food in the house. He was a very thrifty spender.

Saturaday night after all the work was done it was prayer meeting time. He would read the bible to his children and when he couldn't pronounce a word he would spell it out loud and MaMa would tell him what is was. MaMa could pronounce anything, because back then it not wise to mispronounce a word in the bible. We did not add or take away a word from the bible. When he came home from work he would always ask us to take off his brogans. He would untie them and we would pull his shoes off. He would laugh so hard to see his children struggling to take off his shoes.

We were a very happy family and we called the boss man father grandpa (he was white and he answered).

Diddy always said for us "to love one another because your MaMa and DadDy is not going to be here all the time".
