About Artemio Ricarte
Artemio Ricarte was the first Commanding General of the Philippine Army in the Philippine Revolution. After the Philippine-American War, he served 6 years in the Bilibid Prison, and was deported to Hong Kong after refusing to take an oath of allegiance to the United States. His family eventually lives a prosperous life in Japan.
When World War II broke out, he returned to the Philippines in support of the Japanese-run government. He died of dysentery, as part of Tomoyuki Yamashita's troop that fell to the advancing Americans at the Battle of Besang Pass.
