Packianathan endowed Arulai with large areas of property in Nagercoil when she married JohnSahayam. Her husband was working in a fibre factory near Colachel established by the Aspinwal Company. Her uncle P.D. Dewasagaim, whose wife Elizabeth Gnanai was childless, had a great liking for John Sahayam and Arulai and the couple lived with them in the "Mavadi Veedu".
