Austin Dunham Barney (1896-1971) — also known as Austin D. Barney — of Farmington, Hartford County, Conn. Born in Hartford, Hartford County, Conn., November 7, 1896. Son of D. Newton Barney and Laura (Dunham) Barney; married, June 14, 1924, to Katharine Dickson Derr (1890-1978). Republican. Served in the U.S. Army during World War I; lawyer; president, Hartford Electric Light Co.; member of Connecticut Republican State Central Committee, 1940; delegate to Republican National Convention from Connecticut, 1940. Member, American Legion; Beta Theta Pi; Freemasons. Died May 8, 1971. Interment at Riverside Cemetery.

Business school renamed the Austin Dunham Barney School of Business and Public Administration, 1970. Connecticut State Senator, 1933, 1935. President, Hartford Electric Light Co., 1924-64. President, Connecticut Power Co., 1950-58.
