Barzillai Ray

Barzilla Ray was a sailor on the "Essex" that was struck by a whale and sank. He was on one of the three whaleboats that had left the "Essex" after it began to sink on Nov. 20, 1820. He died at sea on Feb 11, 1921. HIs crew members were finally rescued by an English ship on the 89th day after they had left the sunken "Essex."
