About Benjamin Clements of Surry
Benjamin Clements was the son of Francis Clements, Sr. I Born c.1660 in England who came to America in 1682 as as an apprentice. He married Elizabeth Meriwether Clough, widow in 1685 only one child was born from this marriage, Francis Clements, Jr. After the death of Francis, Sr.'s 1st Wife Elizabeth he remarried a 2nd time before 1703 to Lydia Laker Bleighton, widow of George Bleighton and possibly the daughter of Benjamin Laker. It is through this union that Benjamin was born abt. 1703 in Surry County, Virginia.
Benjamin, b. c. 1703 - 1710, married Judith Parker, dau. of [a] Richard Parker, and had sons Benjamin Jr. (m. Elizabeth Williamson), Thomas (m. Amy MacLain), George (wife Lucy Washington), and six daughters. His will was proved in October 1778 in Southampton Co. VA, where he lived his entire life. He did not move to Gloucester Co VA, nor was he the one in Pittsylvania Co VA.
Benjamin Clements was the son of Lydia, the second wife of Francis Clements. He was not the son of Elizabeth Meriwether.
