About Bento da Costa
Note, Bento was not a devout catholic, as debunked in "In the Shadow of History: Jews and Conversos at the Dawn of Modernity" and as evidenced by his offspring all moving to Hamburg and Amsterdam to practice Judaism (which obviously cannot be attributed to a fluke)..
Bento da Costa, Gabriel (Uriel)'s father was a devout Catholic of Jewish origin, his wife was a descended from Jews who had practiced a variant form of Judaism. The family lived in a large home in the best part of the city with servants always at the command. The children were well-educated and Gabriel himself went on to study canon law at the University of Coimbra.
Bento da Costa died and was buried in his hometown Porto, Portugal before 1616.
