GEDCOM Note

Biography

Nathaniel was born in 1677, the son of Timothy Phelps and Mary Griswold. He rose to the rank of Captain, and was twice married, first to Hannah Bissell of Hebron and, after her death in 1717, to Abigail Pinney. Nathaniel passed away at Hebron in 1746.

Research notes: there is potential confusion concerning the first marriage of Nathaniel Phelps to Hannah Bissell, as the handwritten record (see [https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G9K7-B5JL]; seealso the presumed initial entry, [https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G9K7-B55S?i=151&cc...]) indicates Hannah's maiden name as Hannah Phelps, and is dated 28 March 1699. The actual marriageof Lt. Nathaniel Phelps and Hannah Bissell evidently took place on 28March 1700. A separate record dated 20 March is presumably a record of intentions.
