Capt. Thomas Oakley

Biography

Thomas Oakley was born between 1641-1645 and died Jan 1706/7 at Jamaica, Queens County, New York.

”His parents were Miles Okeley and Mary Browne.”

Thomas Oakley was not the son of Miles Oakley and Mary Brown. See Pat Hatcher's article on the Oaklley and Brown families in the NEHGS Register, vol. 169, pp. 216-225.

He married Sarah Whitehead. Sarah Whitehead was born at Jamaica, Queens, New York, United States 1644 daughter of Daniel Whitehead and Sarah? Armitage.

They were the parents of 7 children:

1. Daniel Oakley born Abt 1666.
2. Elizabeth Oakley born Abt 1668. Married Charles Randall.
3. Sara Oakley born Abt 1671.
4. David Oakley born Abt. 1673 in Jamica, Queens, New York.
5. Nathaniel Oakley born Abt. 1678 in Hampstead, Nassau, New York; died 24 Jan 1732/33 in Hampstead, Nassau, New York; married Ead Burtis Abt. 1702 in Hempstead, Nassau County, New York.
6. Hepsibah Oakley born Abt 1681. Married Hendrick Hendrickson.
7. Patience Oakley born abt. Abt 1689 Hempstead, Nassau, New York. Married Joseph Dean.

Thomas Oakley took the estate inventory of his wife's brother, Major Daniel Whitehead, in 1704.

Capt. Thomas Oakley married second abt 1695 to Elizabeth Stevenson, widow of John Everitt.

Capt. Thomas Oakley married third to Mary Higby, widow of Edward Burroughs.

BET 1 MAR 1704/05 AND 2 MAR 1705/06 as per Early Prenuptial Agreement: Mary Higby Burrowes & Thomas Oakley and Mary's son Thomas Description: Queens County Land Records: "B2": 113 in "Historical Miscellany" by Charles T. Gritman.

Unknown.

Unless Robert Garret had an earlier wife called Mary, it does not seem chronologically possible for Capt. Thomas Oakley to be the son of Miles Oakley, III and Mary Garret alias Bouchier.
