Captain 78th Highlanders; entered Royal Marines about 1769; served nine years as a Midshipman; obtained commission as Lieutenant in the 78th Highlanders, or Ross-shire Buffs, 8 January 1778; Captain-Lieutenant and acting Captain(13 Sept 1780), Captain (1783) as from 13 Sept 1780. He greatly distinguished himself at the capture of Seringapatam, and died, unmarried in India 1786, before 12 March (when his name disappears from the Army List).
