1980 - MRS. CAROLINE EDWARDS CELEBRATES 90th BIRTHDAY
On January 25th, Bobby Burns Day, Mrs. Caroline Edwards, a former resident of Kennedy, celebrated her 90th Birthday with a Family Birthday Dinner at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Ethel and Wilson McIntyre in Saskatoon.
A corsage of pink tea roses was presented to her by great granddaughter Candace Runquist of Broadview. Twenty-six guests enjoyed dinner of English favorites – roast beef, yorkshire pudding, plum pudding and birthday cake. The Birthday Cake was made by granddaughter, Lori Edwards, and decorated with help from Candy Runquist and Paul Ramsay, great grandchildren.
All members of her family were present for this happy occasion: Irene and Frank Harper of Redvers; Carol and Candy Runquist of Broadview; Bill and Noreen Edwards and Lori of Regina; Murray and Rick Edwards of Saskatoon; Ross McIntyre, Wayne and Connie McIntyre and Joan, Rob, and Paul , all of Regina; Carolyn McIntyre of Winnipeg; also Laurie Dahl, Rick Mills, Don and Margaret McIntyre and family; and Angela Rappaport, a Rotary exchange student from Germany and a house guest of the Don McIntyre’s.
Cards and messages of good wishes were read from: Lt. Gov. Irwin McIntosh, Premier Allan Blakeney, Grant Devine, Mayor L. Schneider of Regina, Saskatoon-Mayfair MLA Bev. Dyck, the Council of the Village of Kennedy, Kennedy U.C.W., Mayfair U.C. Saskatoon, as well as many friends from Kennedy, Langbank and Regina.
Another touch of ole England was added when flowers were received from her brother-in-law and his families, a large gold ribbon corsage and a silver brooch from nieces in England. From the family, a chair and ottoman with loving wishes for many more comfortable hours when she takes up residence at Oliver Lodge on Feb. 1st. As she chatted with different members of the family, a tape was being made to remember the happy event.
On Saturday afternoon several former Kennedy people called and spent a couple of hours reminiscing old times with the family which was appreciated by all.
Caroline Edwards came to Canada in 1912, at 22 years of age, and married William F. Edwards on June 15th in Winnipeg. In 1919 they moved to Kennedy, where her husband, Bill became the Village Blacksmith. After thirty-four years of service to the community they retired and continued to live in Kennedy until 1968 at which time they moved to Regina. William Edwards passed away in Regina in December 1973 at the age of 85 years. For the past six years, Mrs. Edwards has made her home with her daughter, Ethel in Saskatoon.
Another enjoyable family reunion to be remembered by all for many years to come.
